Amsterdam Hall consists of 9 residential floors plus two levels of parking. Rooms are single-sex; floors are co-ed.

History[]
Amsterdam Hall was built in 1997, under the stewardship of Stephen J. Tranchberg. It was the first 'new era' residence hall at GWU and was pionnering with its spacious, apartment-style living and modern amentities. Originally called New Hall, it was renamed Amsterdam after an alumnus.

House staff live in rooms with one bedroom and a living room / kitchen of the standard Amsterdam Size (one every other floor)

Locks can be bumped open with minimal effort
Some doors vunerable to credit card shimmying
1990s era CCTV system which is not monitored
Two sets of GWorld-locked exterior doors
24/7 GWorld Inspection, except when the inspector is watching soccer
No deadbolts on interior doors
Locksets are KABA/BEST and blanks are not availible, the system is master keyed

Excessive security since removal of key depot
Mailboxes require a key in addition to suite keys and room keys (3)
Elevators frequently down for maintenance
History of water shut-offs
Long walk from far rooms to elevators
Trash chute not centrally located
Poor lighting in bedrooms, aside from lights above dressers (you need lamps)
Couch is more like a love seat
Some rooms have two thermostats, others have one
