Just because GW is located in a major city doesn't mean it doesn't have opportunities for activities outdoors. In 2007, the D.C. region was named the most 'walkable' city in the United States.^[1] The Potomac River and surrounding DC sites offer many opportunities for outdoor activities.

Among the various outdoor activity student organizations on campus, the most popular may be GW Trails. GW Trails is a "university sanctioned, student-run organization that is dedicated to outdoor education, service, and advocacy."
